Oak Grove Silent Auction 2011

This year I decided to make a more simple quilt appropriate for a child or baby rather than a more traditional and sophisticated quilt like last year.

I am hoping the Oak Grove parents will LOVE splurging on this beauty:
quilt modeled zombie style by my MIL Ann

I used my all time favorite Amy Butler print, Honeycomb in aqua, for the backing and this cool yellow and yellow-orange print I found at my local Hancok Fabrics for the binding. It reminds me of Sashiko stitching and I love the unexpected touch of yellow! The quilt finished at around 42"x54" which I think will be a perfect size for a kiddo to snuggle under.

I hope it finds a nice home later this month when it is auctioned off at my mom's school.

UPDATE: This quilt wasn't the big hit I was hoping for. I'm a little upset about it. My mom thinks it's just the economy but I am more inclined to think that people don't understand the value of a well made quilt vs. a 'blanket'. She ended up buying the quilt for $40 and I am 'buying' it back from her by making her something custom for her house.

    Some people just can't recognize a good thing when they see it!

    I think it is a wonderful quilt. Love the aqua and white with the yellow/orange binding!

    i know the feeling... i made a baby quilt for an auction too, and it brought in a whopping $45. don't let it get you down! people just don't know.

    I feel your pain - I made a quilt for a local non-profit's auction and it sold for $50! I don't think I'll be doing that again - I'd have done better to sell it myself on eBay and donate the money!

    Yours was a beautiful quilt - sorry it didn't go for more!

    The quilt is gorgeous, I'm surprised no one wanted it. Do you remember what the aqua solid is? I love it so much I want to make a king version for myself!!

    Most people have NO idea how long it takes to make even a small and simple quilt, or what the materials cost (let alone how long it took to build your skills and save up for the tools!). People often say "oh, would you make me a quilt?!" when they see my very simple (disappearing nine patch) lap quilt. When I gently tell them the materials cost CAN$100, and I will need at least 8 hours (which at minimum wage is roughly another $100), they are aghast.
    They are so in the grip of "you quilt in your spare time (by lantern light, I take it)with free scraps, just like pioneer great grandma did...

    That's terrible. I think it's gorgeous but you're right, most people don't understand the value of a quilt. Wish I had been there to bid on it.
