I finished up the second top last night. With all the donations I've received, I didn't have to make any filler blocks for this top.
Here's a closer look at the blocks:
These tops are coming together fast but I am running out of blocks. If you have a few minutes to spare, I would love it if you could make a block or two for this drive. I will be collecting until October 30th.
Happy Quilting!

Rainbow I Spy - First Top Finished
I made my first two filler blocks last night to complete the first Rainbow I Spy quilt top.
I have received lots of donations but I felt this top needed a purple and a blue that were a little different from what I've received so far.
I think the top came together really nicely. I did end up pinning as I sewed to keep all the pieces lined up. Some of the blocks came to me a little small but with pins I was able to slightly stretch them to the right size. Hopefully this won't cause any puckering when I start quilting.
Here's a closer look at the blocks:
Today is the first deadline for this drive but if you didn't get a chance to make blocks yet, that's ok! I will be collecting blocks for a September 30th deadline and an October 30th deadline to spread out donations and give myself a little time to quilt.
If you are in the Northern Virginia area and would like to volunteer to help put these beautiful blocks together, please email me at threadedmess {at} gmail {dot} com
I'm going to try to make another top tonight so hopefully I'll have more pictures to share soon!
Happy Quilting!

More Rainbows!
Hi Everyone! This is just a reminder that tomorrow (August 30th) is the first deadline for the Rainbow I Spy block drive. These deadlines are intended to break up the donations a bit so that I'll have time to sew in between. If you are planning to make blocks for this round, please plan to get them in the mail soon!
Flickr has been bursting with Rainbow I Spy activity and so has my mailbox. Here are a few blocks that have either arrived or are headed my way:
And there are many, many more! You can check them all out in the Threaded Mess flickr group or the do. Good Stitches {A Charity Bee} "Hope" discussion thread.
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped with this block drive! I am so impressed with your creativity and awed by your generosity!

I see Rainbows!
The Rainbow I spy block drive has been underway for almost two weeks now and I am humbled by all the participation so far. Many of my Hope group members have made extra blocks with plans to make more. A couple of people who are in do. Good Stitches but members of other groups have made blocks too. Some of my NOVA Modern Quilt Guild members have made blocks. Even some of you, my blog readers, have made blocks.
It's extremely exciting to see this idea grow and develop and become something!
Just to give a few examples...
Theresa of Sew & Sews made these adorable blocks and binding:
Hollie of The Undercover Crafter made these blocks:
And Kat of BBC Textiles made these blocks:
For more information about where and when to send donations check out this post for all the details.
Remember, for every 9 blocks I receive, a preemie quilt will be made by me, or with the help of a local quilter, and donated to my local NICU. The more blocks I receive, the more quilts that can be donated! Binding fabric, backing fabric, and quilt batting will also be accepted. All donated materials (including blocks) must be made from 100% natural materials.
Thank you so much for all your help so far! I can't wait to start getting some of these donations in and make the first quilt!

Rainbow I Spy Block Drive
Due to the large number of emails I've received from fellow quilters interested in participating in the Rainbow I Spy preemie quilts I am doing with the Hope group of do. Good Stitches, I am officially starting a block drive!
I'm not sure how to insert the html code so that you can easily make the above picture a button (if you know I'd love some help) but there it is in all its rainbow glory. For all the details on the pattern and fabrics to use, check out the post below or click this link for the original Rainbow I Spy post.
Blocks, quilt tops, and finished quilts will be accepted! Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Please be sure to construct your blocks, tops, or quilts with all natural materials. Quilts will be donated to the Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children NICU.
Where to mail your blocks:
Natalie Weaver
6759 Rockledge Place
Centreville, VA 20121
Submission Dates: I'm breaking these up a bit so you have plenty of time and opportunities to get your blocks in.You can, of course, submit blocks for more than one deadline.
Round 1: August 30th
Round 2: September 30th
Round 3: October 30th
Working Sessions
Anyone willing is welcome to join me in constructing finished quilts. I will announce the working session date(s) at a later time. We will have a working session after every submission deadline so that the work is a little more spread out.
Spread the Word
It would mean so much to me if you could spread the word about this block drive. Blog about it. Tell your friends. Get your guild involved. The more the merrier!
Share Your Work
I would love it if you added your photos to the Threaded Mess flickr group. If you do not have a flickr group you can always email me the photos or send me a link to where they are posted on the web. With your permission I will share the links and/or photos on this blog throughout the block drive.
Thank You!
Thank you so much for your interest in helping out with this special project!
Happy Quilting
Update: Here are some smaller versions of the above picture. You can also grab these from my flickr photostream:
