Rainbow I Spy - Second Top Finished

I finished up the second top last night. With all the donations I've received, I didn't have to make any filler blocks for this top.

I spy dolls, bugs, clothesline, an egg, a boat, flowers, and ducks

Here's a closer look at the blocks:

These tops are coming together fast but I am running out of blocks. If you have a few minutes to spare, I would love it if you could make a block or two for this drive. I will be collecting until October 30th.

Happy Quilting!

Rainbow I Spy - First Top Finished

I made my first two filler blocks last night to complete the first Rainbow I Spy quilt top.

I spy chairs and birds

I spy a castle and crowns

I have received lots of donations but I felt this top needed a purple and a blue that were a little different from what I've received so far.

Rainbow I Spy Block Drive
I spy birds, dogs, dolls, flowers, castles, crowns, chairs, cupcakes, and fish!

I think the top came together really nicely. I did end up pinning as I sewed to keep all the pieces lined up. Some of the blocks came to me a little small but with pins I was able to slightly stretch them to the right size. Hopefully this won't cause any puckering when I start quilting.

Here's a closer look at the blocks:

Today is the first deadline for this drive but if you didn't get a chance to make blocks yet, that's ok! I will be collecting blocks for a September 30th deadline and an October 30th deadline to spread out donations and give myself a little time to quilt.

If you are in the Northern Virginia area and would like to volunteer to help put these beautiful blocks together, please email me at threadedmess {at} gmail {dot} com

I'm going to try to make another top tonight so hopefully I'll have more pictures to share soon!

Happy Quilting!

More Rainbows!

Hi Everyone! This is just a reminder that tomorrow (August 30th) is the first deadline for the Rainbow I Spy block drive. These deadlines are intended to break up the donations a bit so that I'll have time to sew in between. If you are planning to make blocks for this round, please plan to get them in the mail soon!

Flickr has been bursting with Rainbow I Spy activity and so has my mailbox. Here are a few blocks that have either arrived or are headed my way:

And there are many, many more! You can check them all out in the Threaded Mess flickr group or the do. Good Stitches {A Charity Bee} "Hope" discussion thread.

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped with this block drive! I am so impressed with your creativity and awed by your generosity!

Happy Quilting!

I see Rainbows!

The Rainbow I spy block drive has been underway for almost two weeks now and I am humbled by all the participation so far. Many of my Hope group members have made extra blocks with plans to make more. A couple of people who are in do. Good Stitches but members of other groups have made blocks too. Some of my NOVA Modern Quilt Guild members have made blocks. Even some of you, my blog readers, have made blocks.

It's extremely exciting to see this idea grow and develop and become something!

Just to give a few examples...

Theresa of Sew & Sews made these adorable blocks and binding:

For more information about where and when to send donations check out this post for all the details.

Remember, for every 9 blocks I receive, a preemie quilt will be made by me, or with the help of a local quilter, and donated to my local NICU. The more blocks I receive, the more quilts that can be donated! Binding fabric, backing fabric, and quilt batting will also be accepted. All donated materials (including blocks) must be made from 100% natural materials.

Thank you so much for all your help so far! I can't wait to start getting some of these donations in and make the first quilt!
